Suspects nabbed over murder of Mpumalanga cop Piet Pretorius

Mpumalanga police commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has welcomed the swift arrest of five suspects believed to be linked to the murder of Ermelo police officer Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius.

The suspects, aged between 29 and 40, allegedly killed Pretorius on Thursday, 16 January.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE MURDER OF PIET PRETORIUS 

The 59-year-old head of the Vehicle Identification Unit in Ermelo was on duty and was shot multiple times in his official vehicle around 14:00 on Thursday.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, said a vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the crime was found torched on Friday morning next to Extension 7 in Ermelo.

Ndubane said a multi-disciplinary team established by the acting provincial commissioner, consisting of  Hawks, detectives, intelligence, and a security company, has managed to track and trace the suspects in Nelspruit. 

“As promised, the acting provincial commissioner has highlighted that they will leave no stone unturned in finding these police killers.”
