The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) Officers, in conjunction with the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit Region E Officers and Gautrans Special Law Enforcement Unit Officers, apprehended three male suspects between the ages of 38 and 47, and seized 250 SASSA cards.
The multidisciplinary team were executing operational duties, when they stopped a suspected vehicle on Andrew Mapheto drive in Thembisa.
The police officers searched the vehicle and found the SASSA cards.
One of the suspects admitted to utilising the SASSA cards for fraudulent criminal activities.
The suspects were arrested and detained at Thembisa Police Station.
