Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has received THREE nominations for the CAF awards.

Williams’ nominations comes as he’s still in the running for the Ballon d’Or’s Yachine Trophy which recognises goalkeepers.

He is the only African goalkeeper nominated for the Machine Trophy, and the first African-based shot-stopper to be nominated.

Now, the 32-year-old has been nominated for CAF Men’s Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Inter-club Player of the Year awards.

His nominations aren’t a surprise to the majority of African football fans given his exploits at both club and national team level.

Williams was instrumental as Bafana Bafana finished third and picked up bronze against all odds at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

He was also South Africa’s best goalkeeper for two seasons in a row between 2022 and 2024 with Sundowns.

It is worth mentioning that Williams is the only South African player nominated in this year’s CAF awards.

Meanwhile, his coach at Bafana Bafana, Hugo Broos, made the preliminary list for CAF Men’s Coach of the Year.

Sundowns and Bafana Bafana which Williams starred for, were nominated for Club of the Year and National Team of the Year respectively.
