Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly run out of patience with one of their South American stars.

Bolivian midfielder Erwin Saavedra joined the club in a big money move in 2022 however, he’s struggling to leave his mark at the club.

Undoubtedly talented, the 28-year-old has been plagued by injuries and the common case of ‘home sickness’.

Saavedra has made just 13 appearances for Mamelodi Sundowns since joining the club, and now, reports suggest he could soon be on his way out of Chloorkop!

“Club sources indicate that negotiations are underway to mutually terminate the midfielder’s contract, allowing both parties to move on,” a FARPost report read.

“If an agreement on the terms of termination is reached, the player is expected to depart in January 2025.”

In other related news, a Mamelodi Sundowns star is attracting interest from Europe, however the Brazilians are not willing to lose him!

Lucas Ribeiro Costa joined the club at the beginning of last season in a big-money move from Belgian side SK Beveran.

The talented Brazilian striker has scored an incredible 24 goals while assisting 17 more in his first 57 appearances for the club.

His stunning performances for Mamelodi Sundowns however is not going unnoticed!

“Although there is interest from Europe including that from Burnley FC of England, Sundowns are not really wiling to let him go. He is one player that they can fight to keep at all cost,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.

“They know the value he brings to the team and the squad and both management and the technical team are happy with his contribution to the team and that’s why they want to hold onto him despite the interest from Europe.”
