Sundowns ‘keeper more worried about ‘survival’ than game time

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse is still at the club because that’s where his bread is buttered.

And that is according to Pieterse’s agent Gary Cassia, who was replying to the question of his client’s lack of game time at Sundowns.

Cassia, though, admitted that a move away from Sundowns would be ideal given Ronwen Williams’ dominance.

Williams has been Sundowns’ No.1 since his arrival from SuperSport United, relegating other goalkeepers to the bench.

And those are Denis Onyango, Jody February as well as Pieterse, and it has become very difficult for any of them to play.

Williams was recently named the NINTH best goalkeeper in the world in the Ballon d’Or Yachine Trophy category.

Pieterse, specifically, has not been too fortunate in terms of getting regular game time at Sundowns even when Williams is unavailable.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has featured just 21 times across all competitions since joining Sundowns in 2018.

Pieterse had spent two seasons at SuperSport United between 2016 and 2018.

But before then, Pieterse spent three years at Kaizer Chiefs between 2013 and 2016 where he was an understudy to Itumeleng Khune.

Meanwhile, Cassia admitted that it is not easy for agents to move any player away from Sundowns to any local team.

SUNDOWNS ‘KEEPER’S LACK OF GAME TIME UNDER SPOTLIGHT

“A move will be ideal for him for the purposes of game time, but it’s always tricky because the player has a family to feed,” Cassia told FARPost.

“It’s more in the interests of survival. But that is definitely something we are considering, although it’s always tricky to move a player from Sundowns,” Cassia said.

WOULD A LOAN MOVE BE IDEAL?
