‘Sundowns did NOT want to draw Kaizer Chiefs’ – Pirates legend

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi says Kaizer Chiefs are in a good position to beat Mamelodi Sundowns next month.

The two teams play each other in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals after they were drawn against each other. In September, Chiefs and Sundowns played in a league match with the Brazilians claiming a 2-1 win.

Speaking on iDiski Times, Tso said Amakhosi were good enough to take on Sundowns based on how they are playing this season.

“Back to winning ways, you can’t win 4-0 against SuperSport United and not be back. They created those chances, it’s good for the coach, the boys, the supporters and the team,” he said.

Ex-Sundowns and Pirates star says Chiefs are back

Chiefs and Sundowns will play each other in the Carling Knockout somewhere in November. Vilakazi was impressed with how the Glamour Boys played against Masandawana last month despite their 2-1 loss.

“Nabi..there’s something he is cooking and he is doing a very good job, we saw it against SuperSport,” he said.

The ‘Little Napoleon’ though, felt the quarter-final clash came too early.

“It’s too early for them to meet. My worry was the sponsors, especially support. I respect all the teams but if sponsors are involved, you always wish all three teams make it to the quarter-finals at least,” Vilakazi said.

When Amakhosi are playing, you can see the air is different. There are few cars on the road as everyone is home and watching.

The former Pirates midfielder said Sundowns were not hoping to face Chiefs this early in the competition.

“After their last match, Sundowns were not hoping for Chiefs. The same applies to Chiefs, based on their last encounter,” he said.
