Mamelodi Sundowns have decided against retaining the services of Argentine centre-back Lucas Suarez.
Suarez arrived at the start of 2025 on loan from Argentine outfit CA Tallares as one of the most expensive defenders.
And while looked solid in his first few games at Sundowns, Suarez’s weaknesses were slowly exposed.
His lack of pace was often his downfall, and his was ultimately relegated to the bench an later out in the stands.
Sundowns had an option to make his loan deal permanent at the end of June but they have taken a decision not to.
Suarez leaves having featured 14 times for the Tshwane giants with a goal to his name in the league.
His place in Miguel Cardoso’s team has since been taken and reclaimed by veteran defender Mosa Lebusa who recently signed a new one-year deal.
As proof that Suarez is no longer needed, the Sundowns technical team decided to leave him out of the FIFA Club World Cup squad.
