The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup trophy is in South Africa, and it has been unveiled Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Tlhopi Motsepe.
On Thursday, 6 February, FIFA officials visited Sundowns headquarters in Chloorkop, Johannesburg.
And Motsepe was given the honour of unveiling the prestigious trophy to members of the media present.
This year’s edition of the FIFA Club World Cup will be held in the US between 14 June and 13 July 2025.
Sundowns are the only Southern African team in the expanded global club tournament.
In all, there will four African clubs in this edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, namely Sundowns, Al Ahly, Wydad Athletic Club and Espérance.
As previously reported by The South African, Sundowns are guaranteed a whopping R1 billion for their participation.
This will mark Sundowns’ second participation in the FIFA Club World Cup after having done so in 2016.
This was after being crowned 2016 CAF Champions League champions at the expense of Zamalek.
According to One Football, qualification will guarantee a payment of €50 million (R1 billion).
“The total prize money is around €2.5bn, and an initial €2bn will be distributed among the 32 teams that book their plane tickets to the USA. Qualification, therefore, brings €50m as a minimum, while there will be other results-based bonuses, and the winner will receive around €100m,” the outlet reported.
The ultimate winner of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on 13 July will walk away with €100 million.
