Oftentimes, with the start of the new year, people draw up New Year’s resolutions to pave the way for them in the new year. However, we don’t always toe the line and stick to them.

New Year’s resolutions are set to foster growth, new habits and success. The example can be quitting alcohol or smoking, starting school and saving money.

Here is how we can make them stick for 2025:

  • Choose a specific goalVeryWell Mind states that instead of being ambiguous about our resolutions, we should be specific. “Every year, millions of adults resolve to lose weight, ‘be more productive or ‘get in shape’.” The above-mentioned site suggests that we choose a specific and achievable goal and plan how we are going to accomplish the goal during the year.
  • Put time into planningVeryWell Mind also suggests that we don’t choose our goals at the last minute, rather we plan ahead. “Picking wisely and putting extensive planning are essential parts of achieving any goal. Experts suggest that you brainstorm how you will tackle a major behaviour change, including the steps you will take, why you want to do it and ways you can keep yourself on track.”
  • Choose a new resolutionCultivating Health advises that we try to achieve other goals, instead of dwelling on one goal for years. “Avoid picking a goal that you’ve tried in the past but failed. You may set yourself up to fall into the same pitfalls that stopped you previously. Instead, pick something different where you can set up a better path to success.”
