A group of elderly people who attended a Christmas party organised by the ANC on the KZN South Coast felt insulted and humiliated at being constantly reminded to be grateful to the ANC for the food parcels they were about to receive.

A local ANC female leader was captured on Tik Tok telling the gathered grannies that as much as they insult the organisation, they must know that the food provided to them at that event was bought by the party.

This happened on Thursday at uMzumbe’s Ward 19 in Mthwalume near Hibbardene, where  grannies received food parcels and were entertained with music and speeches.

The gathering was addressed by KZN chairperson Siboniso Duma, but he was not within earshot when grannies were scolded about the insults they made against the ANC while collecting its food parcels.

“Don’t forget that this food was bought by the ANC. I have to remind you because you sometimes insult us. Today you are not throwing insults at us but you always do and you need to know that this is ANC food, but nonetheless you will get it,” she said .

The female ANC leader mentioned the pain the ANC has gone through because of such insults.

Members of provincial committees often return to their birthplace constituencies to reconnect with senior citizens and host Christmas luncheons.

Duma said that the initiative was started five years ago to make sure that even those elders who don’t have anyone to buy them Christmas food don’t suffer at this time.

“May the occasion of Christmas bring along happiness, smiles and good health for all senior citizens,” Duma said.

Elderly people were given food parcels and were also entertained with music and reminded how the ANC have worked for service delivery in the communities.
