Sekhukhune United coach Lehlohonolo Seema has revealed the kind gesture by on-loan midfielder Sipho Mbule to his teammates after his recent Carling Knockout Cup Man of the Match award.
Sekhukhune were eliminated in the first round by Richards Bay FC after a 1-0 loss. Mbule, who is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, was voted Man of the Match by the fans regardless. He pocketed R100 000 in the process.
Seema has since revealed that the 26-year-old took half of the money and shared it with his teammates.
“He took R50 000, and the other R50 000 he shared with the players,” Seema told journalists.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED COACH SEEMA IMPRESSED BY A GESTURE FROM ONE OF HIS STAR PLAYERS
“So that shows that he is a team player. He had only a week and a half, but he was the Man of the Match. But he had that thing in him. Being a team player, and being welcomed by the group the way he was welcomed.
“He shared the money with the teammates that played and the ones that didn’t even play. So that really touched us, and that is why the rewards are like this,” Seema added.
SIPHO MBULE APPLAUDED FOR BEING A TEAM PLAYER AT THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP CLUB
Mbule was on the score sheet when Sekhukhune beat Richards Bay 2-0 in a Betway Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday.
“You can see he is looking happy, and he is scoring goals. He is not where we want him to be, but this is a step in the right direction,” he said.
“Everybody knows Mbule’s qualities and the good thing is, he looks happy. When he arrived here, I had a one-on-one with him, and we spoke. He assured me that he would be part of the group. He will work hard like everyone else, and he is proving to be doing that. Not only on match day.
“I can tell you that at training, he has been doing very well and working very hard, and he is a good player to have around. He has been with teams that could win things or could go for a longer period without losing.
“So that mentality, you can see even when he is talking to the players you can see he is a plus for us. He has done something that you can see that he is a genuine guy and he is enjoying it.”
Mbule was also included in Hugo Broos’ 38-man preliminary squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
