Siphiwe Mtshali, known for his impressive career in South African television, broke new ground by taking on his first comedic role in the Showmax series One Weeks.

Playing the character of Smindlo, Siphiwe ventured into comedy for the first time and joined the cast as the hilarious and opportunistic friend of Fana, portrayed by Zakhele Mabasa-Mokone. Smindlo brings unique entertainment to the show, with constant scheming.

“Smindlo is such a chancer, man,” Siphiwe shared with Showmax. “What I find hilarious about him is that he thinks he is smarter than everyone, which is really not the case. He’s basically a free-loader. Without Fana’s constant conundrums, Smindlo really doesn’t have much going on for him.”

In an interview with TshisaLIVE, he shared insights into his journey and the projects he’s working on alongside his wife, Charmaine Mtshali. Beyond TV, he revealed that he had a long-standing dream of launching a music career, a goal he’s had since his days on Jam Alley.

This passion for music even found its way into One Weeks. In Episode 9, Smindlo experiences a taste of fame when his diss track Nomalizo, dedicated to an ex-girlfriend, unexpectedly becomes a hit. The silly yet catchy song was loved by fans, who praised it on social media.

Siphiwe further explained to Showmax that creating Nomalizo was a collaborative effort with series creator Chris Q Radebe. “Chris had an idea for the track, which he initially wrote, but when we got to the studio, my creative juices started flowing, and I began contributing to the song as well,” he shared.
