Showmax, Africa’s leading streaming service, has responded to the backlash against the latest episode of The Mommy Club, which involves allegations of Noksie Khumalo being bullied.

The fourth episode of The Mommy Club Season 3, which premiered on Saturday, 8 March, angered many avid viewers.

As a result, some viewers have vowed to boycott the show if the streaming service does not intervene.

SHOWMAX ADDRESSES BULLYING CLAIMS ON ‘THE MOMMY CLUB’

The third season of The Mommy Club has started on a dramatic note, and it seems to be rubbing viewers the wrong way.

Showmax has faced criticism from viewers of the show, who have taken to social media to voice their frustrations. The third season of the show features Happy Simelane, Mrs J, Mrs Sande, Pheladi, and Noksie.

Viewers have expressed concerns over allegations that some of the cast members are bullying Noksie. The new mom has been a hot topic this season, with fellow cast members feeling offended by her comments. She has frequently been accused of being shady and not taking responsibility for her actions.

In the latest episode of the show, some of the moms confronted her, and things quickly escalated. She stormed off from the dinner table in anger.

Viewers felt she was being bullied and not given a second chance despite her apology. Some viewers also feel the show is becoming toxic and want Showmax to intervene.

In a comment sent to The South African, Tracy-Ann van Rooyen, Executive Head of Content Strategy at Showmax, explained:

“The Mommy Club is an unscripted reality series, and as such, the format requires the producers of the series to limit their intervention in the storytelling, allowing the participants to share their personal perspectives in a raw and unfiltered way. While Showmax does not endorse any comments or behaviours made on any of the content produced, we welcome the debate it brings when key social issues are raised.”

HAPPY SIMELANE ISSUES AN APOLOGY

The Kreatives Agency, representing Happy Simelane, also issued a statement regarding the episode on her behalf.

While Noksie was not directly mentioned in the statement, she expressed remorse for her actions and, furthermore, offered an apology.

“As someone who values respect and integrity, Happy also wants to make it clear that she does not condone bullying in any form.

“While reality television often amplifies emotions and conflicts, she recognises that her words and actions have an impact. Upon reflection, she understands the importance of handling disagreements with grace and maturity and is committed to learning from this experience,” reads part of the statement.

The statement comes after she was also accused of allegedly ganging up on Noksie with her fellow cast members.
