In a tragic first for South Africa, 27-year-old TikToker and maskandi music reviewer Siqiniseko Mvelase was reportedly shot dead during a TikTok livestream on Thursday in Dunnator, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.

According to IOL, Siqiniseko, originally from KwaMaphumulo in KwaZulu-Natal, was streaming live when an unidentified gunman approached and shot him multiple times.

His phone dropped, and the screen went blank after the gunshots. “In his dying moments on the livestream at 11:49 am, Siqiniseko is seen looking up from his screen, while multiple gunshots go out shortly thereafter. His phone drops as the screen goes blank,” the report said.

As reported by Daily Sun, Siqiniseko’s friend, Thabang Khumalo, who was living with him in the rented house, said he left him at home on Thursday morning.

Around midday, he started receiving numerous calls asking what had happened to Siqiniseko.“

I rushed to the house, and I found him dead, lying down, and that moment was traumatic to me because I don’t know what happened. I don’t know who shot him and I don’t know what the reason for his death could be,” the report quoted Thabang as saying.

Siqiniseko was known for his outspoken support of maskandi artist Mthandeni Manqele and criticism of rival Khuzani Mpungose.

He had previously been kidnapped in 2023 and claimed his account was hacked last month.

Police are investigating the motive, with no arrests reported yet
