Shock 29-year-old free agent on trial at Orlando Pirates!

Orlando Pirates are always on the lookout for players to bolster their playing roster with all options open.

Under Jose Riveiro, Pirates have had an unpredictable transfer strategy, with some shock signings.

Pirates have a unique transfer strategy

In the last couple of seasons Pirates signed Patrick Maswanganyi and Thalente Mbatha out of nowhere. Both players coming from SuperSport United, but really coming into prominence under the guidance of Riveiro. That doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon as according to iDiski Times, a new player has been spotted at their training.

Former Chippa United and Bloemfontein Celtic star Siphelele Luthuli has reportedly been spotted training with Pirates. As it stands, it is unclear whether the player is just training with the club to keep fit.  Or he is on trial trying to impress the club and get another shot at the big time.

Luthuli training with the side

“Former Chippa United midfielder Siphelele Luthuli, who is currently a free agent, has been spotted training at Orlando Pirates. The talented Luthuli came through the youth system at the University of Pretoria, before having stints at Highlands Park, Ubuntu, Bloemfontein Celtic, Royal AM and Chippa. It was at Celtic in 2019/20 that Luthuli had arguably his best campaign, scoring six goals. The 29-year-old moved to Chippa after a brief stay at Royal AM, and was the Chilli Boyz for three seasons, featuring 44 times in all competitions.” Wrote the publication.

Should it end up being a situation where Luthuli signs for Pirates, it could be the best revival of a career in recent times. He was released by Chippa at the start of the current season and has been clubless since. During his career, he has played 109 games in all competitions and has 19 goal contribution. He mainly plays as an attacking midfielder, with the ability to play deep. He also has eight caps for the SA U20 side.

Would he be a decent signing for free?

With Luthuli turning 30 in February, would you take him at Pirates, Buccaneers? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
