The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for Gauteng and two other provinces this week as heavy rain continues to impact the region.

This follows the torrential rain that affected parts of Gauteng on Wednesday afternoon, leading to flash floods in some areas. The weather service predicts further heavy downpours across Gauteng, North West, and parts of the Free State.

Gauteng to experience flash floods, says SA Weather Service

In Johannesburg, there is an 80% chance of rain on Thursday, particularly in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures are forecasted to be cool, reaching a high of 22°C.

In Pretoria, evening thunderstorms are anticipated, with reports of flash floods, especially in and around Centurion. On Friday, the capital is expected to experience a 60% chance of rain, with temperatures also peaking at 22°C.

Despite Wednesday’s flash floods, no major incidents were reported in Gauteng, but Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi urged motorists to be cautious on the roads in these weather conditions.

“Most roads are wet and slippery, with some reports of flash floods in most of our low-lying areas. So far, we have not yet recorded any major incidents that have been reported throughout all seven regions of the city of Johannesburg,” he said as per The Citizen.
