Severe thunderstorms expected in parts of SA from Monday

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.

The warning is for Monday, 18 November.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED IN KWAZULU-NATAL AND EASTERN CAPE

The weather service said the severe thunderstorms would result in flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas leading to closure of some bridges and roads due to heavy downpours, damage to property and infrastructure due to strong winds and hail, and disruption of municipal services due to excessive lightning are expected over the extreme eastern parts of Eastern Cape as well as the western and interior parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

ANOTHER WARNING ISSUED

At the weekend, the weather service had issued another yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms.

Some of the possible impacted included flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas leading to closure of some bridges and roads due to heavy downpours, damage to property and infrastructure due to strong winds and hail, and disruption of municipal serviced due to excessive lightning.

Areas over the south-eastern parts of Limpopo, escarpment and eastern Highveld of Mpumalanga as well as western parts of KwaZulu-Natal were affected.
