Scotts Maphuma apologises to his supporters

South African musician Scotts Maphuma has issued a public apology following backlash over his controversial stance on not taking pictures with fans.

The artist made headlines weeks ago after refusing to pose for photos at gigs, a move that many in Mzansi saw as arrogant.

In response, some fans stopped dancing or engaging with his music during live performances, leading to a wave of online criticism and what many described as him being “cancelled.”

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Scotts expressed remorse and pledged to do better:

“I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize to all my supporters. I’ve let some of you down, and I take full responsibility. Growth comes with owning your mistakes and I’m committed to doing better, for myself and for you. Thank you for still believing in me.”

Despite his statement, the apology received mixed reactions online.

While some appreciated his effort, others weren’t convinced.

One user commented: “You should be stating exactly what you are apologizing for. Until such time, this apology is not genuine. Taking responsibility for your actions—mentioning those actions—is the only way to win supporters back.”
