‘Satanic protests’: Pastor Chris warns Zimbabweans

Renowned televangelist Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has called for a special prayer and fasting programme ahead of the much-anticipated protests scheduled for March 31 in Zimbabwe.

Speaking during a Global Day of Prayer, the Nigerian pastor urged his followers to pray for Zimbabwe, emphasising its significance in Africa.

“Zimbabwe is an important country in Africa. It may not be very large. It is not a very big country, but it’s a very important country. And we are not going to let the devil tear it down or take over it. That is our interest. We will expel the demons that are trying to do it and break their powers in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let there be peace in Zimbabwe, and with peace, there will be prosperity,” Pastor Chris declared.

Pastor Chris Warns Against Protests

His remarks come at a time when tensions are rising in Zimbabwe, with many citizens expected to take to the streets on March 31 in protest against economic hardships, political repression, and allegations of corruption within the government. However, Pastor Chris warned against participating in demonstrations, labeling them as “satanic protests.”

“Don’t allow those who are deceiving you or deceiving the people, convincing anyone that they have solutions. They don’t have solutions. They just want power. So far, you have had relative peace in your country. They don’t like it. But there is a greater power than the one they know about. Don’t destroy the country. Don’t listen to those who are telling you ‘go out in the streets,’ but where are they? Will they go in the streets? They won’t. Refuse this satanic protest!” he added.

How Zimbabweans React to Pastor Chris’s Warning

Pastor Chris’s comments have sparked mixed reactions among Zimbabweans, particularly on social media. While some Zimbabweans welcome Pastor Chris’s call for prayer, others see it as an attempt to discourage citizens from exercising their democratic rights.

Some critics argue that his stance is influenced by his close ties to his Zimbabwean ‘spiritual son,’ self-proclaimed prophet Uebert Angel, who has recently been at the center of controversy.

Uebert Angel, a high-profile religious figure and diplomat, has faced mounting criticism from political activist Blessed Geza, who has accused him of being complicit in Zimbabwe’s governance issues.

Here are some of the reactions:

@Mazibisa Shepherd Sindiso: “Because his son Angel was threatened by the Geza fella”

@Charity Mareya: “With all due respect man of God , please leave us alone . This is our country we will fix it our own way. What if God has allowed it to happen?what do you ask us to pray now? Where have you been ? We have been praying and we will not stop praying. By the way this an answered prayer .

Mathew Chitanha: “Pray for Ukraine and DRC leave us alone you don’t know how people of Zimbabwe are suffering, maybe you’re on a zanu pf pay roll , we don’t want your prayer.”

Debate Over the Future of Zimbabwe

As the March 31 protests approach, it remains to be seen whether Pastor Chris’s plea for peace and prayer will influence public sentiment or if Zimbabweans will take to the streets despite his warnings. One thing is certain: the battle for Zimbabwe’s future continues to be fought on multiple fronts—spiritually, politically, and socially.
