SASSA warns against June 2025 social grant SCAM

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has strongly refuted widespread social media rumours suggesting that double grant payments will be issued in June 2025, calling the claims “false and misleading.”

In an official statement, SASSA national spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi urged beneficiaries to ignore and reject the misinformation.

“These reports are untrue and should be rejected with the contempt they deserve,” Letsatsi said.

He confirmed that the agency has no plans to issue double payments and reminded the public that any changes to grant amounts are only communicated by credible and authorised government sources.

Letsatsi reiterated that as outlined by the Ministry of Finance’s Policy Statement in March, grant increases were implemented in April, with a second round scheduled for October 2025.

“Any other increase not announced by credible and relevant authorities should be treated as lies,” he added.

❗ No rule change affecting pensions on 10 June

SASSA also dismissed separate rumours claiming that new rules would affect pension payments starting 10 June.

The agency clarified that a verification process was only introduced for specific grant recipients during the May 2025 payment cycle.

This includes:

  • Beneficiaries using alternative forms of identification rather than the standard 13-digit South African ID number.
  • Individuals flagged in a means test audit who may have undeclared income in other bank accounts.

📢 SASSA calls for caution and accuracy

SASSA urged the public to verify all information before sharing, to prevent unnecessary anxiety and confusion among grant recipients.

“We appeal to our beneficiaries to only rely on credible sources of information on our official social media pages,” said Letsatsi.

SASSA further emphasised that all official announcements will be made through its verified platforms, including:

  • X (formerly Twitter): @OfficialSASSA
  • Facebook: South African Social Security Agency
  • Website: www.sassa.gov.za

Beneficiaries are encouraged to remain alert to misinformation and consult official channels for updates on social grant policies and payments.
