“Somebody’s watching me; it’s just my anxiety” – the lyrics sung by Doechii is probably a song you’ve heard on repeat. But to the star and SADAG [South African Depression & Anxiety Group], it means so much more than a catchy jingle.
The NGO has partnered with the hitmaker to help South Africans – and those around the world – who struggle with anxiety.
SADAG REVEALS DOECHII PARTNERSHIP
In a social media post, SADAG revealed that it was one of the international partners of Doechii’s Mental Health Resource Hub, based on her global sensation single, Anxiety.
The post read: “We are committed to making mental health a priority for everyone. Our dedicated Panic and Anxiety page is filled with important information, practical resources, and effective coping strategies.
As part of the project, Doechii launched Anxiety Is Watching Me, a resource hub for people navigating anxiety.
The NGO revealed that Doechii had first-hand experience with living with anxiety and was using her platform to provide resources that would give her fans guidance and tools to support their mental health.
“This is also a place where you can find comfort in knowing that there are others on the journey, as well. Nobody has to walk the path alone. Welcome to a place of connection, healing, and empowerment”, a description of the project read.
LIVING WITH ANXIETY
In an interview with The Cut in February, Doechii opened up about her own mental health struggles.
She said: “I was getting bullied so bad that I was thinking about killing myself. I realized, ‘Oh, f**k, I’m gonna kill myself, and then I’m gonna be the only one dead.
“The bullies aren’t gonna be with me, and everything they said is not coming with me either. I would just be gone.”
She continued: “I’m not going for that! And this wash of peace came over me… But it was more like this feeling of, I made a choice, a decision. I am the most important character in this movie.”
