SA rallies behind Mia le Roux after Miss Universe withdrawal

Reigning Miss SA Mia le Roux is making headlines after she withdrew from the 73rd Miss Universe pageant taking place in Mexico City, Mexico, on 16 November.

The news of her withdrawal comes as a shocker to many and has since thrust her into top trends.

MISS SA MIA LE ROUX WITHDRAWALS FROM MISS UNIVERSE OVER HEALTH CONCERNS

Taking to social media on Friday, 15 November, a day before the finale, the Miss SA Organisation announced that Mia le Roux had withdrawn from the Miss Universe pageant due to health concerns.

Part of the Miss SA Organisation statement reads, “It is with deep regret that we share the news that Mia le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024, has had to withdraw from the Miss Universe pageant due to health concerns.”

However, Mia le Roux, who went down in Miss SA’s history books as South Africa’s first-ever differently abled Miss SA, was thankful for the support she has been receiving.

She made it known that it was difficult to withdraw from the international pageant, which is lauded as one of the biggest in the world after Miss World.

MISS SA ‘MAKING THE DECISION HAS BEEN INCREDIBLY CHALLENGING’

Miss SA Mia le Roux said, “I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time at Miss Universe.

“Making the decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me.”

She added, “However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength.”

However, the Miss SA Organisation noted that Mia le Roux has shown “incredible courage and grace throughout this difficult period.”

The organisation stated, “Her health and well-being are our utmost priority, and we stand by her side, dedicated to ensuring she regains her strength and returns to full health.”

SOUTH AFRICA SHOWS SUPPORT

Back home, fans and fellow celebrities have since flooded social media with messages of support. Celebrated media personality Bonang Matheba posted, “Get well soon, @mialerouxx.”

Former Miss South Africa, Natasha Joubert, who had tipped Mia le Roux for the crown, posted, “We will always be here for you Mia, Grootste drukkie en al die liefde.”

Model and influencer Blue Mbombo shared, “Omg, no! Sending love to our queen.” Another user posted, “You’re not alone.”

However, a concerned user commented, “Something is not right; there’s something off about this. But let’s keep moving.”
