Springbok and Sharks hooker Bongi Mbonambi is trending against the backdrop of his birthday.

Despite being among the most followed and celebrated Springbok stars, Mbonambi has managed to keep his private life under wraps, leaving many to guess even about his age.

However, the South African has since connected the dots about his age, implicating his career in the mix.

Taking it to Instagram, the Springbok star shared a clip celebrating his birthday with his family. However, his birthday cake had some birthday balloons stripped next to it – 34, seemingly confirming his age.

Against the now-viral post, the publication has established Bongi Mbonambi’s age. The 34-year-old hooker was born on 7 January 1991 in Bethlehem, Free State, South Africa. 

Fans and tabloids were quick to flood social media with warm birthday wishes. Other fans were more than convinced he might not have his last Rugby World Cup dance with the Boks in 2027.

However, if he is sharp and fit for selection he might this will be his last dance in the green and gold at the RWC in 2027, given that he will be, 36.

After all he joins a long list of Springbok stars that might star for South Africa at the 2027 Rugby World Cup including Eben Etzebeth and Siya Kolisi.

BIG WINS WITH THE BOKS

Bongi Mbonambi has won big with the Boks. He was part of the history-making squad at the tenth edition of the Rugby World Cup, which France hosted.

The Springboks edged New Zealand 12-11 in the final. The win undoubtedly saw the Springboks going down in the history books of the Rugby World Cup.

However the win also saw the Boks becoming the first team to win four World Cups in eight appearances.

The Springboks also became the second team after the All Blacks to win the World Cup back-to-back. Despite Bongi Mbonambi being part of the squad his appearance at the 2027 RWC is in doubt.

CAREER

With a career spanning years, Bongi Mbonambi is one of the most celebrated hookers to ever play in the green and gold.

He started his youth career with the Griffons before he switched the floor to the Blue Bulls in 2008.

He had his amateur debut with the TUT Vikings before joining UP Tuks. Bongi Mbonambi made his senior debut with the Blue Bulls.

However, he has also played for clubs, including the Stomers. Currently, he plays as a hooker for the Sharks.
