Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has conveyed that they will face a challenging match against Benin this evening. South Africa is in the driving seat as they lead their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying table.

Ronwen Williams maintained a clean sheet as South Africa triumphed over Lesotho in their last match on Friday evening. He will be hoping for more of the same this evening.

Ronwen Williams Still Believes They Can Claim a Victory

Bafana Bafana have been on an upward trajectory over the last two years. This improvement follows their performance at the 2023 AFCON in the Ivory Coast, where Ronwen Williams and his teammates finished in an impressive third place.

These are some reasons why the Bafana Bafana captain has faith in his teammates, despite his inclination towards caution.

“It’s going to be a tough one. Benin is a very good team, but we believe in our qualities, we believe in what we’ve been building over the last year,” Ronwen Williams told the press.

“So, we’re looking forward to the game. It’s going to be a tough one, a lot of challenges, but I think this team is strong enough to overcome all those challenges.

“It’s going to be a tough one, but we’re excited and we’re looking forward to it. We know how important and vital this game is for the group.

“We know that we can open up a gap and we know that a gap can be closed as well. So, this is a big, big, big game in these qualifying rounds.

“It’s obviously the halfway mark now and after tomorrow you’ll have an idea as to who the favourites are in the group. So, we want to be there, and we want to stay on top of the group.” He further stated.

Bafana Bafana are on track to finish top of their group at the halfway stage of the qualifiers.

Can South Africa Maintain Their Good Form?

With at least nine African nations poised to qualify for the expanded version of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Bafana Bafana hold their fate in their own hands. There are five matches remaining in the qualifiers, meaning they can strengthen their hold on the top spot in Group C.
