Kaizer Chiefs have lost not just a captain in Yusuf Maart but also the heartbeat of coach Nasreddine Nabi’s central midfield and team expression.
Since the 29-year-old from Atlantis renewed his deal with the club in May, Kaizer Chiefs have earned a transfer fee that should significantly boost the club’s transfer budget, particularly for the marquee target Feisal Salum from Azam FC in Tanzania.
As reported on Tuesday, Maart was announced by Ried after passing his medical test at the weekend.

Maart, formerly with Cape Umoya, Orlando Pirates, and Sekhukhune United, said goodbye to South African football after 130 top-flight games, including 10 goals and 10 assists. “Midfielder, Yusuf Maart has left Amakhosi to join newly-promoted Austrian Football Bundesliga outfit, SV Ried,” Kaizer Chiefs said.
New Kaizer Chiefs star sends a message to the coach
“The 29-year-old joined Chiefs from Sekhukhune United in July 2022, making his debut away to Royal AM the following month, and featured in 95 matches in the Gold & Black in all competitions, scoring seven times, including the winning goal in last season’s Nedbank Cup Final.
“The erstwhile skipper also weighed in with eight assists in his three seasons at Naturena. The Club appreciates Maart’s contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and wishes him well in this new chapter in his career,” the club concluded.
R20 MILLION DEAL?
According to the German football transfers and player value assessors, Transfermarkt, Maart’s move from Kaizer Chiefs to SV Ried was worth €1.00m.
Converted into Rands, the estimated value in Amakhosi’s bank account should be around R20 million.
In the meantime, reports say Kaizer Chiefs will turn their attention to signing a new midfielder. The target is none other than the Azam FC maestro Feisal Salum in Tanzania. According to recent reports, Amakhosi previously tabled two rejected offers to sign the 27-year-old midfielder.
The Soweto giants are now expected to table a third and definitive offer.
