The incident unfolded at approximately 20:10 when the driver of a black 2023 BMW G70 7 Series sought to cross the border. The driver, a 40-year-old foreign national in possession of a South African passport, raised suspicions during routine checks conducted by officers.

Further investigation revealed that a South African financial institution wants the vehicle. The driver claimed the vehicle’s rightful owner would arrive in South Africa by flight on 1 January 2025, according to the police. However, problems with the driver’s documents revealed they were fake.

SAPS promptly arrested the suspect on charges of possessing a suspected stolen vehicle and providing fraudulent documents. Authorities seized the luxury vehicle, and the suspect will appear in the Musina Magistrate Court on January 3, 2025.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, commended the officers involved for their diligence. The SAPS continues to encourage the public to report any suspicious activity as part of its mission to uphold law and order throughout the country.
