Legendary US producer Quincy Jones is dead

Legendary Producer, composer and musician Quincy Jones has passed away at the age of 91.

Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, says he died Sunday night at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement.

“And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Born in Chicago in 1933, Quincy Jones began his career as a musician before quickly establishing himself as a groundbreaking producer.

His early work with artists like Sinatra set the stage for a prolific career, but it was his transition into television and film that would further solidify his status as a cultural icon. Jones’s ability to blend musical talent with visual storytelling helped redefine entertainment across multiple platforms.

One of Jones’s most notable achievements in television was his role as the executive producer of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” This groundbreaking sitcom, which launched the career of Will Smith, became a cultural phenomenon in the 1990s. The show tackled social issues through humor and provided a platform for discussions about race, class, and identity in America.
