PSL transfer rumours: Mayele, Appollis, Saleng, Mofokeng

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been linked heavily with several PSL stars.

However, in this case, AmaKhosi hope to sign while the Sea Robbers hope to keep.

Both outfits have started the season strong – Pirates are joint first, and the Chiefs lie seventh with a game in hand on all but one of their above-placed opponents.

Transfer gossip

Following seven signings in the winter, the Glamour Boys hope to add more to their PSL roster in January to improve squad depth.

  • Oswin Appollis is a key target for Nasreddine Nabi as he looks to give Ranga Chivaviro extra attacking options.
  • Pyramids FC player Fiston Mayele is another prospect Nabi hopes to sign. Three years ago, Kaizer Chiefs had a chance to land him but decided against the out-and-out attacker.
  • Monnapule Saleng is attracting several clubs from Europe, with Belgium side Standard Liege rumoured to be most keen.
  • Rising star Relebohile Mofokeng is another Buccaneer being monitored from abroad. However, he seems set to stay in January.

Inside scoop

The PSL has an array of world-class talent like Cape Winelands attacker Appollis, who looks likely to join Kaizer Chiefs this summer, an anonymous SoccerLaduma source said:

“The coach had seen his games on tape and followed him in (scouting) reports. Nabi was happy and that’s why there were talks with Polokwane City for the player. Now he has seen him in action for both club and country and he demands for him to be signed in January”.

Saleng is another player who could be on the move, but, similarly to teammate Mofokeng, it would likely happen at the end of the season.

“It’s not like the interest died off. It is just that last [PSL] season he was not playing much so it was hard for the teams interested in him to monitor his progress but they were checking what was going on. Now, since he is back in the thick of things, the interest has arisen again”, an anonymous source told Soccer Laduma.

“It’s Standard Liege that have shown interest. Actually, last season, they were also interested in Mohau Nkota while Monaco SC were interested in Saleng. So, now it is believed that the Standard Liege scouts are looking at Saleng since Nkota has not been playing much since his promotion.”
