Orlando Pirates have not been shy to give opportunities to young players from their DDC structures under Jose Riveiro.
When Pirates suffered injuries Riveiro has not hesitated to place faith in the players bubbling under at the club.
Pirates have given youngsters chances
Of late, there has been reward for top prospects from the club structures. Thabiso Sesane had to bide his time for a number of years before becoming a regular. But when his injury halted his progress, it offered an opportunity to Mbekezeli Mbokazi. Players like Relebohile Mofokeng and and Mohau Nkota are also products of the Pirates DDC structures.
Another player who has been given the opportunity in the first team is right-back Siya Ndlozi. With Pirates losing senior players in that position, the 22-year-old has had to step up. The likes of Thabiso Monyane and Thabiso Lebitso have spent a considerable amount of time on the sidelines. That has seen the youngster plug in gaps and understudy Deano van Rooyen in that position.
Ndlozi one of them
But now, having just been rewarded with a senior three-year deal, it’s believed Ndlozi is already planning to leave Pirates! But this is to fulfil his ambition of playing overseas according to Soccer-Laduma!
“That’s how high he (Ndlozi) is aiming, believe it or not. He is a very confident player, and his dream is to play overseas. The first move was to break into the Pirates first-team, and now that has been achieved, he is working on cementing his place in the team to boost his chances of a European move,” said the source.
Pirates are expected to recover Lebitso and Monyane to compete with van Rooyen at some point. Bandile Shandu is also back in the Pirates first team fold. Therefore it remains to be seen what Ndlozi’s role will be at the Buccaneers next season.
