A shocking incident unfolded at Paxton Correctional Centre in Witbank when a 58-year-old prison warden, Nala Abraham Fenyane, was arrested for drug possession.
The warden was apprehended with a significant quantity of substances believed to be drugs, including 93 tablets and three sachets, with an estimated street value of R15,000.

The arrest took place when Fenyane’s supervisor unexpectedly visited him at the facility’s main gate. The supervisor’s suspicion was aroused upon observing the warden’s bag, which was fully loaded.
After promptly conducting a preliminary investigation, the supervisor made the decision to arrest Fenyane on the spot.
After being taken into custody, Fenyane was released on R3,000 bail at the local police station. He has been ordered to appear in Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 20, 2023.
His bail has been extended, and he is expected to make his second appearance on Monday, November 27, 2023.
Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, commended the vigilance displayed by the supervisor.
