Princess Charlotte is known for her fondness for friendship bracelets, which led Prince William to predict that she would take from him a friendship bracelet that had been given to him.
Where did Prince William receive the friendship bracelet?
Prince William received a friendship bracelet while on an official visit to Estonia on 20 March as part of a royal tour.
According to PEOPLE, while Prince William was at The Freedom School, which was founded in response to the war in Ukraine, in Estonia, the school’s students gifted him with a friendship bracelet in blue and yellow.
The prince then proceeded to talk about Princess Charlotte.
The Estonia visit
After receiving the gift in Estonia, Prince William joked that Princess Charlotte would probably take it from him. According to an X video posted by royal reporter Rebecca English, the Prince said:
“My daughter [Princess Charlotte] will probably try and poach it off me later. She loves these friendship bracelets.”
The reporter also shared how the Prince made sure to thank the students. “Thank you very much. I like the Ukrainian colours. Thank you, that’s very kind,” he said.
Princess Charlotte showed her love for friendship bracelets by starting a trend in the royal family.

According to PEOPLE, Prince William wore the bracelet in Estonia and one that said “Papa” during his visit to Cape Town, South Africa, and during his environmental Earthshot Prize in November 2024.
“Over the last ten years, the evidence that we face urgent challenges to protect the environment has become indisputable, and it’s clear that the time to act is now. In response, The Royal Foundation and Prince William launched The Earthshot Prize, the most prestigious global prize for the environment in history,” the Royal Foundation said.
According to PEOPLE, back then, Prince William made sure to share the story behind this bracelet during his Cape Town visit:
“Well, this is a relic, if you like, from a Taylor Swift concert that my daughter decided that she wanted to create a bracelet for. She gave it to me when I came away. So I promised that I’d wear it and try not to lose while I was out here,” he told reporters.
He joins the rest of the royal family, who recently wore friendship bracelets as well.
Royal family bracelet trend
Princess Charlotte wore another friendship bracelet in July 2024 with her mother, Princess Kate, at Wimbledon.
It’s not just Princess Charlotte and Prince William who wore friendship bracelets, but King Charles wore one too.
The king previously wore a yellow and red bracelet during royal affairs. He wore it with his military uniform, probably as a nod to Princess Charlotte and her love of friendship bracelets.
Even Prince George wore a bracelet during his birthday portrait last year when he turned 11 years old.
While Princess Charlotte inspired the royal family to wear bracelets, Taylor Swift probably inspired her.
Why does Princess Charlotte love friendship bracelet
Many fans attributed Princess Charlotte’s love for friendship bracelets to Taylor Swift, who started a trend of fans exchanging friendship bracelets while on her Eras Tour.
The Princess was in one of Swift’s Eras Tour concerts, as Prince William took her and Prince George to one of Swift’s shows on 21 June 2024. The princess possibly found inspiration back then.
This visit to Estonia is Prince William’s first international tour of the year. While Princess Kate wasn’t with him, the royal couple recently got together and baked Welsh cakes after the flood visit.
We may see Princess Kate wearing a friendship bracelet in future appearances.
