Prince William is arriving in Cape Town this morning.

Prince William is flying to Cape Town on a commercial flight and will land in South Africa this morning, Monday 04 November 2024 for The Earthshot Prize award ceremony.

What is The Earthshot Prize?

With an increasing emphasis on the importance of protecting the environment, The Royal Foundation and Prince William launched The Earthshot Prize. It is a project that Prince William is very passionate about. The fourth award ceremony of this prize is taking place in Cape Town on Wednesday, 6 November.

This is another first for Cape Town and also for South Africa.

The initiative aims to raise awareness surrounding environmental issues, and more importantly, to bring about change. As stated by The Royal Foundation, ‘the prize is about much more than awarding achievement – it is a decade of action to convene the environmental world with funders, businesses and individuals to maximise impact and take solutions to scale, to celebrate the people and places driving change; and to inspire people all over the world to work together to repair the planet’.

Last month, Prince William announced the 15 finalists of his prestigious annual Earthshot Prize awards competing for £5million in prize money.

They were selected from a record entry of nearly 2 500 nominations from 139 countries.

Is Kate Middleton joining Prince William?

Mail Online reported that Prince William will visit Cape Town without his wife Kate Middleton, who is prioritising her recovery after completing chemotherapy recently after a cancer diagnosis.

Markedly, a host of famous faces including supermodels Heidi Klum and Winnie Harlow will be joining him at the event.

Both models are passionate about the environment and have championed sustainability in the fashion industry. Additionally, Harlow owns a vegan and reef-safe skincare range.

Actor and singer Billy Porter and TV presenter Bonang Matheba will be hosting the ceremony.

Ahead of her appearance, Klum told Hello! Magazine: ‘As someone who uses my platform to advocate for a better future for our children, I am deeply inspired by The Earthshot Prize’s ambition to find and support solutions for a healthy planet.’

“I am so happy to be a part of the incredible evening. The Earthshot Awards has in store to celebrate innovators and encourage our youth to be part of building a better future.”
