Executive mayor of the Polokwane municipality, John Mpe, has issued an update on the upgrade progress at the Seshego Stadium, home to Carling Knockout Cup finalists Magesi FC.
The facility has been earmarked by the Betway Premiership newcomers – Magesi FC, to host some of their home matches.
The high-profile matches are set to remain at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Earlier in the season, both the club and the municipality confirmed that an agreement is in place to host PSL matches.
However, the venue, which has only been hosting SAFA ABC Motsepe League matches, did not meet the PSL required standards. A November deadline was set for the completion of the minor upgrades at the stadium. These include a track field and a VIP area, among others.

“We want to assure them [Magesi] that we are working very hard to complete Seshego Stadium,” said Mpe.
“The PSL has already approved our pitch. We are just finalising the athletic track, which will see the club playing in front of the supporters from the biggest township in the province.
“We also hope that the move boosts the local economy of Seshego. The stadium looks very nice. I will also be visiting next week. But come January 2025, Seshego Stadium will also be ready for them,” he said.

Magesi will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup final on Saturday evening at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
“We are very much proud of their achievement [reaching the final], and over the past months, we have seen Magesi proving that they can cement their own place in the Premier Soccer League. We are confident that with the performance that they have already shown in the Carling Knockout,” he said.
“It shows that Polokwane and Limpopo as a whole have the talent. As a City, we are looking to work together with our corporate partners. People who can come on board.
“To also organise transport from our side to go to Mangaung. For the people of our City to be able to be part of the historic occasion of seeing Magesi for the first time in the final of a cup competition at the highest level of football.”
