Qumbu police have opened a case of attempted murder and of robbery of livestock (sheep) on Saturday when stock thieves pounced on a homestead in Lower Tyirha locality shooting and injuring a 33-year-old woman.
As the thieves drove away with about 200 sheep from the kraal, they shot through the house’s window and the victim was hit on her thigh and she was taken to a nearby clinic and then taken to the hospital.
Police were summoned, but the search for the thieves and stolen stock during the night was unsuccessful as only one sheep was recovered.

However, on Sunday at about 12:00, police received information about sheep spotted in Bhelekence locality near a river.
On arrival, they recovered 145 live sheep – but 24 were already dead – after being hidden in a steep river valley.
At the time of publishing, no one has been arrested yet and investigation is ongoing.
