Police arrest two suspects for allegedly stealing eight cattle

The SAPS Provincial Flying Squad in Limpopo has arrested two suspects who allegedly stole eight cattle in Polokwane following a swift response to a stock theft complaint on Friday, 9 May 2025.

POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTS OVER STOLEN CATTLE

According to a police statement, Members of the Provincial Flying Squad received a call about a stock theft at a farm near the Mall of the North in Polokwane.

Reports suggest that the suspects stole eight cattle from the farm and loaded them into a white Isuzu bakkie with a cattle trailer.

Police began searching along the N1 South highway, where they located the vehicle carrying the cattle.

They arrested two suspects between the ages of 28 and 29.

“The suspects revealed that two additional accomplices remained at the farm with the other four stolen cattle.”

“Police proceeded to the location, but the remaining suspects fled into the bushes upon noticing police presence,” read the police statement.

STOLEN PROPERTY RECOVERED

The police recovered eight stolen cattle along with other stolen items, including a motor vehicle, cattle trailer and a cattle control electrical shocker.

The two suspects face charges of possession of suspected stolen property(livestock).

One suspect is facing an additional charge of resisting arrest.

The suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 May 2025.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR STOCK THEFT IN UPINGTON

In other related news, two suspects aged 37 and 39 were arrested for stealing 18 cattle, estimated to be valued at R130 000.

SAPS members in the ZF Mgcawu district recieved calls regarding suspected criminal activities involving livestock on grazing land near Upington on Thursday, 8 May 2025.

A multi-disciplinary team involving Upington Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STESU), Upington Rural Safety, and the Upington Highway Patrol conducted a tactical operation where they apprehended the suspects.

Police urge anyone who has lost livestock to visit their nearest police station to claim their animals, as the owners of the recovered stock remain unidentified.

“Livestock owners are once again reminded to brand-mark their animals for easier identification and to assist in curbing stock theft,” the police said.
