HOW TO PREPARE FOR A POWER OUTAGE

We all know that experiencing a power outage is stressful, as electricity is used daily. Businesses and companies suffer, as most don’t operate during a power interruption.

However, there are ways to prevent such issues. Here’s a list of things you can do to prepare for a power outage:

  • Do not throw away your empty bottles. If you are drinking from a plastic bottle, do not throw it away. Instead, fill the bottle with water, store it in your freezer and let it freeze. Once frozen, it can maintain a cold temperature, which will help keep your refrigerated food cool when there’s no power.
  • According to Eskom, one way to prepare for a power outage is to keep boiled water in a flask. A flask is a container that can keep your liquid warm if you need to have your tea or coffee during a power outage.
  • Cook at least two hours before the power outage. This will also depend on the type of food you are preparing; some foods require long hours to prepare.
  • Have a gas stove that you can use to cook or boil water.
  • Have a torch that you can use for lighting.
