Mamelodi Sundowns claimed all the bragging rights after humiliating Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 in a Carling Knockout Cup clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Mamelodi Sundowns made their intentions known early in the game and opened their goal account from the spot in the 14th minute.

AMAKHOSI’S HUMILIATING DEFEAT: 4-0 LOSS, PITCH INVADERS PROTEST

Lucas Ribeiro drew a foul inside the box, and Iqraam Rayners converted. Eight minutes later, Iqraam Rayners registered a brace after tucking the ball into the net after Khuliso Mudau’s cross.

Mamelodi Sundowns extended their lead in the 39th minute after Peter Shalulile punished Kaizer Chiefs’ defence in six and nines.

Just like in the first half, Mamelodi Sundowns dominated the game, and Mudau sealed the win in the 60th minute to put Masandawana four up.

Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel also received a red card after his second yellow card for fouling Peter Shalulile.

However, more than three pitch invaders made it to the ground during the match, seemingly disrupting the play.

One of the invaders was spotted wearing an Orlando Pirates jersey, and in one of the photos, security officers are seen removing him from the pitch.

In one of the incidents, a Kaizer Chiefs pitch invader was seen being escorted off the pitch with several players and a security guard after protesting.

At some point, the referee had to run across the field after a pitch invader charged against him. Another pitch invader confronted Ntwari before being removed from the pitch.

At the end of the game, there was a heavy police presence to offer protection.

KAIZER CHIEFS COACH APOLOGISES TO FANS AFTER SUNDOWNS DEFEAT

Nabi has only won one of his last five matches and is still hopeful about building a strong Kaizer Chiefs squad.

After the defeat, the Kaizer Chiefs head coach said, “We knew that the team was not as ready as people think, but today was an accident that will not happen again.”

However, Nasreddine Nabi also apologised to the fans.

“I want to apologise to all the fans. I’m very sorry… It was a hard lesson. Nothing worked for us today. I want to congratulate my colleague. I’m really sorry for this outing.”

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi revealed he was begging his lads to score more goals against Kaizer Chiefs.

Speaking to the media after the game, “Even at half-time, I was begging them to put up a professional performance and trying to score as many goals as possible because it’s important in our preparation for the continental space.”

“That is the only thing I’m unhappy about.”

Apart from the cup defeat, the gaffer hasn’t been enjoying a good start in the league and is now 11 points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates.
