Orlando Pirates host the mighty Mamelodi Sundowns in Soweto on Sunday. Despite Mamelodi Sundowns’ 18-point lead, Tshegofatso Mabasa says it will not be a make-or-break event.
PLENTY TO PLAY FOR
As things stand before kick-off on Sunday at 15:30, Sundowns will have only eight games left for the season, while the Sea Robbers have 12 games to the finish line. “I don’t think our title chances depend on this game against Sundowns,” Mabasa said via Sowetan. “We still have a lot of games to play, we still have a lot of points to fight for and anything is possible in football. But we know that on Sunday we have to go out there and fight.” The Orlando Pirates striker continued: “Hopefully, we get all three points, which would take us in the right direction if we want to win this league.
“We want more, we want success for this club, it’s a big brand and we have to keep on performing. There’s a lot of pressure from outside, but together as a group we believe we can achieve many more things this season.
“It [winning the league] would mean a lot, honestly. We’ve been creating history already with this wonderful club and that will remain in the history books. We have to leave a legacy, we have to leave our mark as the current players,” the striker concluded.
JOSE RIVEIRO ON MONNAPULE SALENG
Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng is still at odds with the club due to a contractual dispute.
The last time Saleng put on the Orlando Pirates jersey was in mid-December last year. Is their any progress on the matter? “I don’t think about players when we win or when we don’t win,” coach Riveiro said as per Vodacom Soccer. “I think no one would like to be in this situation when we started the season, but it is what it is.
“It’s something that, as you know, is not my role to speak much about. I just wish the best for both sides in this case, and whatever I say is going to be a big headline, right?” concluded Riveiro.
DO YOU THINK MONNAPULE SALENG WILL PLAY FOR ORLANDO PIRATES AGAIN?
