Not all women should be paid Lobola – this is the view of renowned podcaster Penuel Mlothswa.
The social media figure who currently has a big following on online platforms has recently shared a clip in which he condemned the fact that African men would have to pay lobola money to females who have been sexually active before marriage.
In the clip shared on YouTube, he revealed that he had experienced lots of uproar for his views on the topic but believes that it is unfair that the family of men needed to pay damage fees, for girls who have been impregnated when he believes it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that females remain pure.
“A girl child is meant to be raised by a father and, specifically, a mother who teaches her about purity so that when a boy comes and asks for her hand, she knows what is going on. Today, girls are telling their moms that they are having sex. They inform their moms about abortions and miscarriages, and then this idiot of a boy has to pay damages while this girl acts like a virgin.”
Penuel explains that the biggest problem in modern society is the fact that black men have lost their minds, their land, their dignity, their worth, and their culture, which causes them to be dictated to.
He believes that one should go back to the basic principles where paying lobola was not based on monetary transactions and loans but an exchange of goods and services.
“The worth of a woman is her body count, how many men she has slept with because it says something about how men value her in society,” he added.
His opinion is that Africans need to return to the original principals of the practice where married women assume the role of nurturers who take care of the family and feel that it is unfair that modern society and the rise of feminism, gender equality allows women to choose their path while still insisting on receiving the benefits of lobola.
