Residents in Gauteng woke up to a brisk morning on Wednesday, with early temperatures hovering around 11°C in parts of the province. Despite the chilly start, forecasters expect daytime highs to reach the lower 20s, bringing mild relief as the day progresses.
The South African Weather Service forecasts partly patchy afternoon skies developing across Gauteng later in the afternoon. Isolated clouds are also expected in the Free State and North West areas. While no major weather warnings have been issued, locals can expect a relatively calm day.
“Temperatures will make it into the lower 20s for most areas,” said Joel Guy, a forecaster.
“But it will stay rather cool for Bronkhorstspruit, which will only manage a high in the teens.”
No rain is expected, but patchy afternoon skies are expected
While other parts of the country are seeing signs of rain, Gauteng remains dry for now. A cold front moving across the southwest coastline may not directly affect the province but could shift patterns elsewhere.
Despite a dry day, some light cloud cover could move into Gauteng as the afternoon sets in. Winds are expected to remain light and variable, creating a relatively stable weather pattern.
“Parts of the country are under the influence of a cold front, but for Gauteng, we’re only seeing patchy clouds and no significant precipitation,” Guy added.
Mild conditions ahead for the Highveld
Heading into the evening, temperatures are expected to drop again, but not as sharply as in the early morning. Gauteng will continue to experience mild winter weather.
