Orlando Pirates target rival star to strengthen their defence!

Orlando Pirates are ready to delve into the current January transfer market, in an effort to improve their squad.

Pirates have been linked with several players before the window opened could now act on their interest in those players.

Pirates short of central defenders

The latest area that looks to be targeted by Pirates is their central defence. They have seen Nkosinathi Sibisi and Thabiso Sesane form a great partnership so far this season. But the biggest problem comes in the lack of cover they have for the duo. Should the Buccaneers lose one of them, then as it stands captain Innocent Maela could be roped in. Although comfortable in central areas, the skipper is a natural left-back.

Pirates have been thin in that area due to injuries and departures. Leaders Tapelo Xoki and Olisa Ndah have spent the majority of this season sidelined thus far. While the Buccaneers recently parted ways with Sandile Mthethwa. That has seen club management look to the transfer market to try strengthen their cause.

According to Soccer-Laduma, Pirates are targeting Sekhukhune United centre back Tresor Tshibwabwa Yamba Yamba!

Tshibwabwa a new target?

“Pirates are already working on the team even for next season and that’s why there are some players they are monitoring and one of them is Sekhukhune United defender Tresor (Tshibwabwa). For now it’s interest from Pirates and they are the ones working on that. You know even now they have two injured central defenders in Olisa Ndah and Thapelo Xoki since they released Sandile Mthethwa they want to replace him with a top defender hence their interest in Tshibwabwa. They are in the process of building a team which won’t just compete this season but many more seasons to come and they are looking at bringing in different players,” said the source.

Pirates may have a big problem in getting Tshibwabwa, however. The DRC international signed a six-year deal with Sekhukhune in 2022, meaning he still has another three-years left. Therefore, the Sea Robbers would have to pay the big bucks to get him. Buccaneers, do you think he would be a good signing? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
