Orlando Pirates star looks set for a January move as his agent updates on the current situation.

Pirates benchwarmer Katlego Otladisa’s future at the club remains uncertain as speculation grows about a possible loan move in the next transfer window. Despite joining the Soweto giants in July 2023, the 28-year-old has struggled for playing time, sparking rumours that he might be loaned out to gain more game time elsewhere. Nimrod Mbhalati, Otladisa’s agent, has now provided an update on the situation, confirming that interest in his client exists from multiple Betway Premiership clubs.

Otladisa’s move to Orlando Pirates from Marumo Gallants was seen as a major step forward for the talented left-winger. However, since his arrival, the former Platinum Stars, Cape Umoya United, Ajax Cape Town, Orbit College, and Mamelodi Sundowns player has yet to feature for Pirates in any competitive matches this season. His lack of minutes has raised concerns among fans and pundits, fueling speculation that he could be loaned out in January to a club where he would receive more playing time.

Agent confirms interest from several PSL clubs

While Otladisa’s future at Pirates remains unresolved, Mbhalati confirmed that several clubs have expressed interest in the 28-year-old winger. His agent revealed that he has yet to discuss Otladisa’s future with Pirates management. But confirmed that the player’s lack of game time hasn’t gone unnoticed by other clubs. “Yes, there is interest in the boy from a few clubs. And it’s also evident that he’s not playing,” said Mbhalati as per FARPost

Despite the growing interest, Mbhalati emphasised that any decisions will need to wait until the right time. “I’m yet to sit down with Orlando Pirates management and find solutions regarding this situation,” he explained. “It’s highly unlikely for that meeting to happen now because, obviously, the window period is closed.”

Will he leave Pirates in January?

The speculation surrounding Otladisa’s future continues to mount as we head closer to the January transfer window. The winger is at a critical stage in his career. And Mbhalati is well aware that the 28-year-old needs to be playing regularly. “He is at an age where he should be getting more minutes. But we will cross that bridge when we get there,” Mbhalati said. “The boy is strong, and we support him together with his family; they are very supportive. I personally talk to him daily, and he is positive and working hard.”

Otladisa’s next steps will likely depend on how the transfer window unfolds. While the agent refrained from confirming any specific moves. PSL clubs like Sekhukhune United, Polokwane City FC, and even a possible return to Marumo Gallants have all been linked with the player.

The clock is ticking: Will Otladisa stay or go?

As the January transfer window approaches, it remains unclear whether Otladisa will stay at Orlando Pirates or move on to new opportunities. The winger’s current situation at the club suggests that he may need to seek a loan move to continue his development and secure regular game time. Only time will tell if Otladisa will remain at Pirates. Or if a fresh start at one of the interested clubs will provide the platform he needs to thrive.
