Orlando Pirates are casting their net far and wide as they prepare to bolster their squad ahead of next season’s intense campaign. With multiple competitions on the horizon, the Soweto giants are prioritising dynamic attacking talent, and one name stands out.
Pirates target Upington City winger
The Buccaneers have reportedly placed Upington City’s Trevor Mokwena under close watch. The 24-year-old winger has dazzled this season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, finding the back of the net nine times for the Gucci Boys, according to The NFD. His form has not gone unnoticed by Orlando Pirates’ scouting department.
A source confirmed the club’s interest.
“The team is looking at different wingers who could bolster the squad next season and because there is competition for Marumo Gallants winger Daniel Msendami then it’s believed that they are monitoring Upington City winger Trevor Mokwena. Apparently they have enquired about him and they were just waiting for the end of the season to look at other logistics.”
Mokwena, formerly with the University of Pretoria, has emerged as one of the most lethal wide players. His pace, precision, and goal-scoring instinct make him a strong contender for a top-flight move.
Sebelebele still on the Pirates’ radar
Alongside Mokwena, Orlando Pirates remain interested in TS Galaxy winger Kamogelo Sebelebele, a player long linked with a move to the club.
The same source revealed:
“Actually these three, Sebelebele, Msendami and now Trevor Mokwena — are like the main targets as far as wingers are concerned. Yes, there are other departments that the club is believed to have enquired about. But now they are monitoring Trevor Mokwena from Upington City.”
Big ambitions fuel the Bucs transfer plans
With eyes firmly on silverware, Orlando Pirates are clearly looking to reinforce their squad depth across the board. While wingers are the current priority, whispers around striker and defender signings suggest a comprehensive transfer strategy is already in motion.
