Orlando Pirates have announced that winger Gilberto will be loaned back to Petro de Luanda.
The 23-year-old joined the Buccaneers in August for reportedly R10 milllion but has failed to live up to the hype. Having struggled to find his footing in the earlier CAF Champions League preliminary matches, Gilberto was benched for most league and cup matches.
In the five league matches he played, the Angolan winger has failed to find the back of the net for Orlando Pirates. With Mohau Nkota and Relebohile Mofokeng showing great form, Gilberto’s chances of forcing his way into the team were slim.
On Friday, the Buccaneers announced the departure of the winger on loan.
“Orlando Pirates has reached an agreement for the loan transfer of Angolan international Gilberto to Petro de Luanda for the remainder of the season.
The move sees Gilberto return to his hometown club, pending the successful completion of a medical,” the club said in a statement.

Pirates are in action this weekend against Richards Bay in the Nedbank Cup round of 32. The Buccaneers are defending champions having won the competition in 2023 and 2024. The Soweto giants are yet to announce any new signings in January.
