Orlando Pirates have several star strikers on their books but they’re reportedly keen to add another to their roster.
Pirates keen to add more firepower
Orlando Pirates are hoping to keep several current strikers. However, they’re not ruling out a swoop into the transfer market for more attackers.
“As we speak now, his contract will run until June 2027. The club has already exercised the two years on his contract. It’s not a direct extension or a new contract. For now, they have taken up the option they had on the player, and that’s within their rights to do so. His previous contract was coming to an end in June this year,” a SoccerLaduma source revealed.
“What they want to do is try and keep Mabasa, Evidence Makgopa, and Zakhele Lepasa, but they are not ruling out bringing in another striker next season. They have already identified some of the strikers they are targeting,” the source added.
New deal for Mabasa at Orlando Pirates
28-year-old Tshegofatso Mabasa is the current Golden Boot holder in the Betway Premiership, plundering an impressive 16 goals across 26 matches for Pirates and Swallows to earn the honour in 2023-2024. Mabasa now has 44 Pirates goals to his name, moving him second on the all-time charts. He’s 14 adrift of all-time leader Benedict Vilakazi who bagged 58 for the Buccaneers. A new deal is in the offing for the prolific marksman.
Pirates falter against ten-man Stellenbosch
Jose Riveiro’s Sea Robbers could only manage a 0-0 stalemate against FC Stellenbosch on Tuesday evening. The result leaves Jose Riveiro’s men 18 points adrift of runaway leaders Sundowns after 18 matches. Pirates do have four games in hand, however. Sundowns only need 19 points from their remaining eight matches to mathematically guarantee the title. If they beat Pirates on Sunday, that number will drop to 13.
Will Mabasa reach Vilakazi’s mark of 58 goals for the club?
