Orlando Pirates have confirmed a new interim coach after Jose Riveiro was granted an early release from his contract.

The 49-year-old was on the bench for the final time when the team played Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening. The Buccaneers emerged 3-0 victors to give the Spanish coach a perfect send-off.

The club has confirmed that assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi will take over as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

“The remaining matches of the season will be overseen by Assistant Coach Mandla Ncikazi, who will take charge of the team on an interim basis. He will be supported by Head Performance Analyst Rayaan Jacobs and the rest of the Club’s technical and support staff,” Orlando Pirates said in a statement.

After winning his last match for Orlando Pirates, Riveiro was asked if he would coach another local team.

“No [I won’t consider another PSL club], never,” he said. “Never… Once Always – I will never coach any other team in South Africa. I am a Buccaneer.

“Orlando Pirates is the only club that I could have the motivation and the courage and energy, and the heart in this case to coach in the country, no doubt.”

In the three years as Orlando Pirates coach, Riveiro has won five trophies with the Soweto giants.
