Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro is celebrating a HUGE personal milestone with the club as they host Richards Bay FC.

The two sides face off against each other in the Betway Premiership at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

Now, this encounter surely holds a special place in Riveiro’s heart, more especially because no one thought he would still be at Pirates by now when he first arrived.

ORLANDO PIRATES COACH JOSE RIVEIRO CELEBRATES 100 MATCHES

Riveiro joined Pirates two-and-a-half year ago as a relatively unknown coach in South African football.

Some criticized Pirates for hiring him while others were keen to give him a chance to prove himself at this big club.

Now, on Tuesday, Riveiro will be in charge of his 100th competitive match for Pirates – becoming only the second club coach to achieve that in the after Ruud Krol.

In the 99 matches Riveiro coached so far, he has won 60, drawn 20 and lost just 19 since joining Pirates.

Furthmore, Riveiro has delivered FIVE major trophies – three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup titles.

Now, perhaps the only trophy missing that the majority of Pirates fans expect from Riveiro is the league title.

Under Riveiro, Pirates twice finished second behind Mamelodi Sundowns but they appear to be serious contenders this season.

As things stand, Pirates lead the log standings with 18 points from their opening six league games.

They are also in the group stage of the CAF Champions League – something they couldn’t achieve last season.

Riveiro’s contract with Pirates expires in June 2025, and it remains to be seen whether or not the Spaniard will stay.
