Orlando Pirates are level on points with reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Buccaneers had their best-ever start to the season – winning seven from seven – before being halted by Stellenbosch FC in their last PLS outing.
The Soweto side have a chance to make it eight wins in nine when they face Gallants on Christmas Eve.
Who could be leaving?
Jose Riveiro has Orlando Pirates fans in dreamland with a PSL title locked in their sights, which, if achieved, would end their thirteen-year league drought.
Several star players are being linked with moves away, including Relehobile Mofokeng, who is attracting European Giants Barcelona FC, Glasgow Rangers and RB Leipzig, and Patrick Maswanganyi, who is apparently keen to move to one of soccer’s elite leagues.
Other Orlando Pirates players attracting foreign interest are wonderkid Mohau Nkota, forgotten man Karim Kimvuidi, and maestro Kabelo Dlamini, who will apparently be offered a two-year contract extension from the Soweto Giants as they look to lock in their midfield for the future.
“He (Dlamini) is one player that everyone at the club (Pirates) would like to keep and that’s why it’s not surprising that they are offering him a new two-year deal. Actually, it’s a trophy year, a straight one until June 2027 but then there is a one-year option on it. That means he could be at the club until June 2028. I can’t say it’s a done deal yet but at the same time I don’t know what can stop it,” a SoccerLaduma source confirmed.
