Nando’s has joined many soccer fans on social media who have pocked Kaizer Chiefs for their disastrous loss to Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend.
The cheeky restaurant is known for roasting not only its chicken but also ordinary South Africans on its X account.
Amakhosi received a 4-0 thrashing from their opponents at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 2 November.
NANDO’S ROASTS KAIZER CHIEFS ON X
Known for their tongue-in-cheek posts, Nando’s decided to weigh in on a sensitive matter for many South Africans – local soccer.
They tweeted, “Time check: 4:00—Makhosi. Are we good, or are we still digesting that four-piece special?”
The tweet was undoubtedly liked by many Sundowns fans and other club supporters.
But Kaizer Chiefs fans were notably upset. Some even called on the fanbase to boycott the restaurant.
@TD_Nondungu: “Are you aware that about 80% of your consumers are Kaizer Chiefs fans? Tread carefully. Your market share is at stake”.
@Kea_Nuri: “From now on, all 57 Sundowns supporters will buy Nandos. Count us out!”
@SerogoleManape: “Let me go spend my money at Pedro’s for the rest of this year.”
@hisdoingthings_: “I’ll never buy from Nandos. Count me out….one customer means a lot; remember that.”
‘NOT GOOD ENOUGH’, SAYS COACH
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has “accepted full responsibility” for the club’s 4-0 loss to Sundowns.
He said in a post-match conference: “Somehow, I share an assessment that the players were not good enough today.
“But the responsibility is mine as a coach. I’m going to take full responsibility for today’s game because I don’t want to criticise my players in front of the media.
He added: “But I will do it inside. Everyone will take his responsibility, but it’s true that they were far from their best performance because we were, at the beginning of the game, very nervous”.
