‘Nobody knows whether Riveiro is going or staying’ – Pirates coach

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi is uncertain whether the club’s head coach Jose Riveiro will stay behind the current season.

Riveiro joined the Buccaneers in 2022 and is currently in his last season. Under his leadership, Pirates have won five trophies under the Spaniard in a space of three years. Last year, Riveiro hinted that this may be his last season in South Africa as he wanted to spend more time with family.

Ncikazi hoped Riveiro stayed at Pirates next season.

“Whether the coach leaves or stays at the end of the current season is anybody’s guess at the moment. Working in football is like checking in at a hotel. Others stay for one day, others stay for two days, others stay for a month – but at the end, we all check out!” Ncikazi said on Bucs Camp Documentary.

“I do have my personal wishes; if the project works so well, why should it be spoiled? But let’s keep the hopes high and also trust the vision of our management that they will always take the right decision.”

Riveiro might leave Orlando pirates

With his contract expiring in the next three months, there has not been a word from the Orlando Pirates management on whether Jose Riveiro is staying or not. Before the Spaniard joined the Sea Robbers, the Buccaneers struggled for consistency and often found themselves chopping and changing coaches.

The Bucs faithful have not celebrated a coach since Ruud Krol. The Dutch tactician helped the club to a historic treble in the 2010/11 season.

Do you think Jose Riveiro will jump ship?
